Worker falls to his death while installing air conditioner

An imported worker fell to his death from a height on Saturday in the NAPE district, the Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) said. DSAL expressed deep condolences to the victim’s family and stated it would assist them in following up on worker compensation claims.

Immediately after the accident, the Labour Affairs Bureau dispatched personnel to the scene to understand the situation, according to public broadcaster TDM. According to a preliminary assessment, the deceased fell from a height while installing an air conditioner on the exterior wall of a building. The cause of the accident is still under further investigation.

DSAL noted that it has been disseminating high-altitude work safety messages to the industry through various channels and methods. They strictly require construction-related personnel to implement safety plans and conduct related promotional activities, including organising specialised lectures on high-altitude work, safety meetings, and on-site seminars, a statement issued by DSAL indicated.

The Bureau emphasised that it also carries out occupational safety and health promotions and provides guidelines for the installation, maintenance, and cleaning of air conditioners.
