Macau | Typhoon Signal No.8 or No.10 could be raised next Saturday night due to Typhoon Mangkhut

Macau (MNA) – The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) told Macau News Agency (MNA) that current predictions indicate Typhoon Signal No.8 or No.10 could be hoisted between September 15 (Saturday) night and September 16 (Sunday) due to Typhoon Mangkhut.

The department expects wind speed to reach between 63 km/hr to 118 km/h during that period, with some 150 millimetres to 250 millimetres of rain to be expected.

A storm surge warning could be raised on September 16 for possible 0.5 to 1.5 meters floods in the Inner Harbor.

Currently super Typhoon Mangkhut is located in the northwestern part of the Pacific Ocean, with maximum wind speed in the center reaching 240 km/h.

‘It is expected that on day 15, Mangkhut will enter the South China Sea at super-typhoon level and at night approach the Guangdong coast. For this reason, it may pose great threat to the Pearl River. In the territory, frequent strong winds and showers could occur and serious floods could caused by storm surge in lower areas,’ the SMG told MNA.
