A Promising Event

The lineup for the MGM Macau Tennis Masters is nothing less a “who’s who” in the world of tennis, featuring an impressive number of athletes. The ATP segment showcases former world No. 5 Taylor Fritz, the resurgent Dutch player Tallon Griekspoor ranked at No. 21, Croatian powerhouse Borna Coric, and the emerging Chinese talent Zhang Zhizhen. Complementing this near-to perfection cast, the WTA contingent features the formidable Daria Kasatkina from Russia and the rising Chinese star Wang Xinyu.

Tournament Director Luiz Carvalho expressed enthusiasm about this group of established players and rising talents, anticipating close matches that will not only showcase their skills but also foster a friendly rivalry. Although all matches promise to keep viewers at the edge of their seats, one of the highlights will take place at 2:00 PM on the opening day. The Mixed Double Match will pace Zhang Zhizhen and Wang Xinyu against European talents Borna Coric and Daria Kasatkina, igniting the spirit of competition while promising a captivating tennis action.

Kenneth Feng, President and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited, extended a warm welcome to the international tennis stars, emphasizing the anticipation surrounding their first visit to the city. He reiterated the diversity in playing styles and personalities among these players, forecasting a spectacular event that will highlight Macau’s reputation as a hub for sports and entertainment.

Tennis Stars are Coming to Town

The event’s anticipation heightened due to the fact that injuries led to a revised lineup, which led to a number of newer— even more anticipated names— joining the tournament. Taylor Fritz, who solidified his position in the world’s top 10, leads the pack. His remarkable journey, becoming the first American man in over a decade to break into the top 5, promises a one-of-a-kind performance in town.

Adding to the fervor is Tallon Griekspoor, the Dutch sensation, whose breakout season and recent victories have propelled him into the highest tiers of the sport. Borna Coric, armed with an impressive career-high ranking of No. 12 and three career titles, brings a compelling intensity to the tournament, while Zhang Zhizhen, known as China’s trailblazer, arrives at a career high of No. 52 after a historic run in Masters 1000 events earlier this year.

The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) lineup is equally impressive, headlined by Daria Kasatkina, a player steadily climbing the rankings and boasting six singles titles, known for her creative playing style. Wang Xinyu, the rising Chinese tennis star, continues to dazzle, achieving milestones and securing her place among the sport’s emerging talents.
