From December 2, Light up Macao 2023 promises to dazzle with light installations and much more. Alongside seven other areas, the Northern District and NAPE shine bright in this luminous affair.
December is a month not to be missed in Macao. Amongst the many celebrations that mark the beginning of the festive month, the city will be transformed into an extraordinary journey of illuminated wonder. Until February 25, residents and visitors will see the city shine bright with the Light Up Macao 2023 Festival, make sure not to miss it.
Under the theme, Dazzling Wonderland this light extravaganza showcases an array of luminous installations, interactive exhibits, and captivating mapping shows dispersed across 34 locations within seven districts encompassing Macao Peninsula, Taipa, and Coloane.

What you can see in the Northern District
Make sure not to miss out on the riveting flash shows are set to grace the Northern District at 8:30 p.m. every Saturday, under the sub-theme Joyful Journey aiming to breathe life into each district, infusing them with vibrant colours and fostering a buoyant life into the city.
Visitors to this area can delight in installations such as the breathtaking Butterfly Wishing Lake, right at Areia Preta’s Urban Park, experience the unique Flashing Accelerator and walk under beautiful coloured arches with the Symphony of Love both at the Waterfront Duet Leisure Area. Bright and Colourful NAPE
The NAPE area and the beautiful waterfront Kun Iam Statue will also be showcasing their best colours. Locals and visitors alike can stroll and Travel Around the Universe (the area’s sub-theme) while enjoying marvellous light installations.
The Macao Science Museum transforms itself into a real-live Journey into Wonderland. Delight in the mapping spectacle and notice how colour and light will be aplenty. The footbridge next to the city’s Cultural Centre, will be a walk to remember, with its mesmerising Start Light Boulevard! All that Shines
The allure of the event further intensifies with captivating projection mapping shows at key locations. In NAPE, visitors can find them at the front square of Macao Science Center. The participation of projection teams from Macao and UNESCO Creative Cities of Design – Seoul, Korea, and Wuhan, China, epitomises collaborative creativity, showcasing the amalgamation of culture and innovation.
Right for all ages, these mapping shows, scheduled at various times, enchant spectators with their visual storytelling and last for approximately eight minutes and promise to be a great experience.
